Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Quality Technician or Quality Engineer to join our wood plant in Holland, MI. The level hired in at will be based on experience.
 

As a Quality Technician or Quality Engineer, you will:


Implement, monitor, and audit quality systems and procedures for our case good operation.  Implements programs, utilizing statistical techniques to improve process/product quality and reliability.  Reviews product quality problem for corrective action.

Job Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with higher level engineers, develops and researches new processes or improvements to existing processes, tooling, and equipment.  Analyzes gaging requirements and cost, alternatives considered, and development and implementation of quality plans to meet safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Analyzes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to prepare and update necessary documentation (first piece, inspection instructions, and process potential studies) as defined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for closure.
  • Utilizes statistical techniques, tolerance analysis, process potential studies, and other processes to assure new tooling and equipment meet specifications for corporate SOPs and plant requirements.  Develops and implements corrective action plans to bring non-conforming processes or tooling into compliance.
  • Coordinates calibration methodology and process; ensures system and database are providing current tools and methodologies and sources to calibrate equipment in-house or by vendor.  Ensures completeness of repairs on all measurement equipment; ensures electronic and mechanical instrumentation is calibrated as required.
  • Serves as team member with plant operations and production personnel to troubleshoot operational issues on daily basis to determine root cause and support corrective actions.  Spends significant time on production floor; climbs above floor level and around or over equipment, walks on screen guards, or works in other awkward areas of manufacturing environment.
  • Develops and initiates systems to gather data for analysis and reporting on plant operations.
  • Coordinates and maintains corrective action systems (for internal and external failures) so identification, prioritization, and correction of problems occur efficiently and effectively. Conducts internal and external audits.
  • Attends supplier equipment and part qualification runs to identify and resolve quality problems.  This may involve travel, including overnight and international, to supplier sites.

Do you have these required qualifications?

  • Quality Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar field of study. (In lieu of Bachelor degree, an additional 2 years of work experience is required for every 1 year of education not completed)
  • Quality Tech: 4 years quality experience
  • Current and continuing right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • The ability to work in Holland, MI without relocation assistance.
  • Ability to climb/bend/balance in manufacturing environment required; must be able to lift/move material weighing up to 70 pounds.

Do you have these preferred qualifications?

  • CQE or ASQ certification
  • Experience with problem solving tools such as PDCA or 5Why
  • PPAP experience

Ideally, you have also demonstrated the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret intricate engineering drawings and specifications using geometric tolerancing.
  • Demonstrated competence in math, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Demonstrated ability to use and program metrology equipment, such as Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), utilizing advanced set-up methods.
