Position Description

 Latin Americans United for Progress is a nonprofit organization in Holland Michigan serving the Latino community. LAUP’s Mission is to empower Latinos to participate in creating a better community for all through advocacy, education, and celebration. LAUP has been a pillar in the Latino community since its inception in 1964. LAUP has a renewed focus to inspire, equip, and empower the Latino community for the future.

Reports to: Executive Director 

Status: Full-Time 

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 annual salary 

Schedule: The position requires approximately 40 hours per week, including weekends and evenings as necessary. 

Review Process: Evaluation at 90 days and annually thereafter. 

Vacation: 3 weeks after 90 days 


Position Summary: 

The Development & Communications Specialist is a hands-on member of the team who blends event coordination, fundraising, marketing, and storytelling to advance LAUP’s mission. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role serves as a strategic catalyst, who designs and executes integrated campaigns, donor stewardship, and community initiatives that strengthen LAUP’s visibility, maximize stakeholder engagement, and drive sustainable revenue growth. 

Leveraging bilingual (English/Spanish) and deep cultural fluency alongside multi-channel marketing expertise, the Specialist delivers data-informed campaigns that resonate across diverse audiences. They build authentic relationships with clients, donors, sponsors, and community partners, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and strengthening long-term support. As LAUP’s lead storyteller, the Specialist captures and shares the stories, images, and events that bring our mission to life and amplify our impact. 

Leveraging deep cultural and linguistic fluency (bilingual English/Spanish) alongside advanced market intelligence and multi-channel expertise, this role drives impactful, data-informed campaigns that resonate across diverse audiences. The specialist partners seamlessly with cross-functional leadership to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, cultivates meaningful donor and sponsor relationships, and crafts compelling narratives that amplify mission-driven impact. 

This role is best suited for a detail-oriented, creative self-starter who enjoys planning events, developing communications, and cultivating meaningful connections to support LAUP’s growth and sustainability.


Core Responsibilities:

 ● Develop and lead comprehensive integrated marketing and fundraising strategies that align with the organization’s mission and objectives, utilizing a variety of channels including digital platforms, social media, email campaigns, print materials, and events to maximize outreach and engagement.

 ● Conduct in-depth research and analysis of industry trends, target audiences, and competitive landscape to inform strategic planning and ensure that outreach efforts are innovative, relevant, and effective.

 ● Create, curate, and oversee the production of compelling content across multiple platforms, including website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials, to effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and impact.

 ● Capture high-quality content including photos, videos, testimonials, and stories during organizational events, campaigns, and outreach activities, while building and maintaining a content library that can be used across multiple channels.

 ● Manage industry best practices, emerging trends, and technological advancements in digital marketing, SEO, SEM, PPC, and analytics to continually enhance the organization’s marketing and outreach capabilities.

 ● Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and community stakeholders through personalized communication, stewardship activities, and engagement initiatives to foster long-term support and collaboration.

 ● Maintain accurate donor and sponsor records, track contributions, generate resorts, and provide insights to guide fundraising strategies.

 ● Support sponsorship and grant management by assisting with tracking of deliverables, collecting impact data, and ensuring sponsor recognition across platforms.

 ● Plan, coordinate and execute organizational events including fundraising events, donor gatherings, and community celebrations by managing timelines, logistics, and day-of operations.

 ● Coordinate event communications, including invitations, RSVPs, programs, signage, and sponsor recognition, while conducting post-event evaluations to assess impact and inform future planning.

 ● Analyze the effectiveness of marketing and fundraising campaigns using relevant metrics and data insights, providing recommendations for continuous improvement and adapting strategies to meet organizational goals.

 ● Collaborate closely with internal teams, including program staff, leadership, and volunteers, to ensure messaging consistency, integrate marketing efforts with program activities, and support organizational growth and visibility.

 ● Prepare detailed annual reports, impact narratives, and presentations that demonstrate organizational achievements, inform stakeholders, and support fundraising and partnership development.


Qualifications:

 ● Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management or related field preferred.

 ● Bilingual in English and Spanish are strongly preferred.

 ● 3-5 years’ experience in community outreach, marketing, fundraising, event coordination, or related roles with proven multi-channel campaign success.

 ● Skilled in developing and executing marketing, fundraising, and event plans that align with organizational goals.

 ● Strong visual and written storytelling skills, including creating content for social media, newsletter, and promotional materials.

 ● Experience with donor database management or CRM systems for tracking contributions, generating reports, and managing donor information.

 ● Excellent organizational skills; able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects independently.

 ● Proficient with Google Suite, Canva, social media, email marketing, and database tools; quick to learn new technologies.

 ● Flexible to work outside normal hours for events and outreach as needed.
