Economic Development Intern

The economic development intern will support Lakeshore Advantage’s economic activities—gaining exposure to the spectrum of economic development work, including business engagement, data-informed decision-making, and cross-sector collaboration, while contributing to active projects and initiatives. This role is intentionally cross-functional to support both immediate business needs and longer-term strategic initiatives.

Description

Responsibilities

  • Support business retention, expansion, and attraction efforts by assisting with employer outreach, meeting preparation, follow-up communications, and participation in site visits and events.
  • Assist staff with existing employer and partner engagement, including preparation for company meetings, data gathering, and coordination related to expansion, workforce, site-readiness, and other strategic initiative discussions.
  • Conduct industry, company, and market research to support targeted outreach, prospect development, and regional economic development initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain industry sector materials, including data summaries, infographics, and commonly referenced resources used in employer/prospect engagement and cross team collaboration.
  • Support data management activities, including maintaining our Customer Resource Management (CRM) system records and assisting with internal reporting related to business engagement and strategic initiative activity.
  • Provide administrative and project support for cross-functional initiatives, including talent, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, and other strategic economic development projects, as assigned.
  • Participate or help in organization of community, investor, and stakeholder events representing Lakeshore Advantage, including occasional early morning or evening commitments
  • Occasional front desk support


Required Skills:

·      Enrolled and pursuing a degree in economics, business, finance, or related field. 

·      Ability to clearly communicate ideas and work collaboratively on a team. 

·      Strong written and oral communication skills. 

·      Personal or professional experience using Microsoft Office suite of applications.

·      Experience with a Customer Resource Management Systems (CRM) or data analytics a plus.


Hours: Up to 30 hours in-person at our offices located in downtown Holland.
